SUDDENLY I CRAVE MSG,Here's a little foreign name that's probably flying under everyone's radar. Nissin foods (NFPDF), the company that makes "Cup Noodle", is probably going to see a boost in sales this season from a particularly well placed advertising scheme that made its way into the U.S. release of Square-Enix's (SQNXF) "Final Fantasy XV". It's not uncommon to catch billboards or vending machines for sodas and coffee, but take a look at the first minute or so of this Youtube clip, they actually went all out on hawking the product:For those confused about what is going on here:The game has a plot device where you normally need to go around looking for rare ingredients for recipes, so this was an extremely clever way to work it into a commercial. If you choose "Shrimp", then it sends you on a quest to defeat a giant lobster-cockroach looking thing, which you then chop into bits to make your own perfect cup. The way the characters look directly at the camera while telling you how these instant noodles are a life-changing culinary event is worth its weight in gold. Nissin Foods was founded in Japan on September 4, 1948, by Momofuku Ando. Mr. Ando created the first instant ramen noodle product, Chikin Ramen (Chicken Ramen). The company further established a US subsidiary, Nissin Foods in 1970 and also sells instant ramen noodle products under the name "Top Ramen".I can't recommend the shares of Square-Enix (SQNXF) right now, but Nissin should be looking at a great upcoming quarter.Watch for other game makers who rely on in-game advertising, such as Sega-Sammy (SGAMY), (SGAMF) to start to leverage those relationships in this way as well with upcoming games like "Yakuza 5" and "Shenmue III".
